Third day there was a wedding in Cana Galilean
like at every one with joy and wine with song
with Jesus were his disciples and Mary mother
kin, friends with wine as every feast goes along.

“They have no wine” suddenly said Jesus’ mother
“Woman what have I to do with you?” He replied
for His hour had not yet come thought
He that moment yet she already ordered,
“Listen to Him,” God Himself abides.

She knew already then of her Son’s mission
written in Old Testament from times of old
among people to carry taste and
drink of life to sweeten
of every living creature’s happiness,
that’s the story told.

There were six stone jars for purification standing
“fill them to the brim with water”
was Jesus’ command
that it become wine and to the
master’s table be taken
how much doubt and fear man bear
she takes it in hand.

When he tastes water that became wine
in rapture he says
who is this man who saves best
wine for end of feast
for first one puts best before every guest always.

The master knew not the bridegroom
had no part in it
only servants who were there witnessed the wonder’s weight
for none before had done or even thought
such thing unless the table guest
has power and love so great.

Only God’s mercy alone can give taste to life
matters not first or hundredth year one lives
for life is joy predestined for
happiness and gladness
whirlwind of changes fulfilling all needs and wills.

Thus Jesus in Cana Galilean did first sign
revealed His holy glory through wine,
water and stone
disciples believed at once what eyes did see
only of spiritual poverty men
need be ashamed alone.
